Chevvai Bhagavan is prayed to cure many diseases. Many deities got cured in this place and the presiding deity came to be called Vaithyanathar. His wife was the chief of women of both worlds and is hailed as Thayal Nayagi.

Vaithyan means physician and Lord shiva is known as Vaithyanatha the supreme healer.
